Board creates elections committee after voters were assigned to wrong polling places

What happened
In May 2026, the district found its voter database had assigned some people to the wrong polling places for the budget vote and board election. The board let voters use any polling place for that vote. On Aug. 20, 2026, it created an ad hoc committee on elections to review polling places, how voters are assigned, and uneven voter turnout across the city.
Why it matters to families
School budget votes and board elections are how residents control the school budget and board. Fixing assignment mistakes matters because the budget and board seats were decided by about 3,100 votes. The committee has not yet reported.
The evidence
In the Aug. 20, 2026 meeting recording (auto-captions), a board member said the committee was created after an error in the voter database assigning people to the incorrect polling location, and that the board earlier adopted a resolution allowing voting at any polling place. The July 23 recording shows the same discussion. No findings have been published.
