District expects ~$558,700 in additional one-time state funding on top of adopted FY27 budget

Aleutians East Borough School District · Aug 25, 2026

Financial

What happened

Following adoption of the FY27 budget, the Alaska Legislature's HB263 and other sources are expected to bring AEBSD approximately $353,222 in one-time supplemental (Foundation Waterfall) funds and $205,571 in energy-relief funding, plus the Borough increased its local contribution by $100,000 to $1.4 million. Superintendent recommends using much of this one-time money for strategic, non-recurring investments (vans, weight rooms, building improvements, safety/security) rather than new recurring costs.

Why it matters to families

This is a significant increase to the adopted operating budget (over $650,000 combined from state and local sources) that could materially change spending plans for facilities, safety, and transportation across the district, beyond what the board approved in the FY27 budget adoption.

The evidence

"Current estimates include approximately $353,100 in Foundation Waterfall funding and $205,600 in energy relief, for a potential $558,700 in additional one-time state funding... the Aleutians East Borough has also set its local contribution. The Borough Assembly approved an additional $100,000 above last year's amount, bringing the total local effort to $1,400,000."
