What happened

Administrators are asking the board to approve an income-based sliding fee scale for aftercare, expanding reduced-fee access for families who do not qualify for ELOP-funded free care. The proposed rates are $4 per day in the 50% fee category, $6 in the 75% category, and $8 at the full fee; the recommendation would take effect November 1 if approved.

Why it matters to families

The proposed policy could lower the cost of supervised after-school care for eligible families, with household income used to determine fee assistance. The board has not yet acted, so the rates and start date remain proposals.

The evidence

The October 19 board packet lists the aftercare sliding-fee application for board discussion/action. The superintendent-principal recommends approval effective November 1, 2026, and the attached application lists ELOP-funded free care plus $4/day, $6/day, and $8/day fee categories for non-ELOP students; it says eligibility would use household-income criteria, including free/reduced-price meal eligibility or other district-approved verification.
