District still under state emergency management

What happened

The superintendent said the district is still under the state's emergency management. State education officials visit October 19-20, 2026 to interview teachers, students and community members, and a state turnaround plan will follow this year.

Why it matters to families

The state, not only the local board, has a say in how the district is run. The visit and plan could change programs and leadership priorities. In November 2025 the superintendent had said the district was starting to plan its exit from state control.

The evidence

September 28, 2026 meeting: 'we're still on the emergency management'; the state held an orientation around September 11 and returns for an assessment visit. (YouTube auto-generated captions of the official recording.)
