New K-6 reading and writing program adopted

What happened
On Jun 1, 2026 the Board approved Arts & Letters from Great Minds for English language arts in grades K-6 (7-2 vote). Staff said it fits the Science of Reading, an approach that teaches how sounds and letters work. They said 100% of the teachers in the pilot supported it.

This changes the books and lessons students use for reading and writing every day in elementary school.
