District news
Investigation finds a school bus monitor sexually abused students; the person has been indicted
What happened
The interim superintendent told the February 26, 2026 meeting that a Title IX investigation had found conduct involving the sexual abuse of children, that the matter had been referred to law enforcement, and that the person had been criminally indicted by a grand jury. He said the individual was not a district employee but worked for the district's transportation vendor. The full investigative report was published on the school website the next morning.
Why it matters to families
This is the most serious safety failure on Barrington's public record this year, and it happened on the school bus, a place families have no way to supervise.
The evidence
The February 26, 2026 approved minutes record the superintendent stating that the findings are deeply disturbing, that the conduct detailed in the investigation involves the sexual abuse of children, that the matter was referred to law enforcement and the individual criminally indicted by a grand jury, and that the individual was employed by the district's transportation vendor rather than by the district. The chair stated the district would release the full report on the school website. Earlier minutes from December 4, 2025 and January 8, 2026 track the investigation by outside attorney Timothy Groves through the required Title IX steps. The report itself was not filed with the minutes.
