District news
District begins fiscal-stabilization planning below local reserve goal

What happened
The district reported a 6.77% economic-uncertainty reserve and planned a fiscal-stabilization committee to recommend savings options by the first interim report. No cuts were adopted at this meeting.
Why it matters to families
The reserve was below the board’s 11.33% local goal, although it remained above the 3% state minimum and the district’s 5% cut trigger. Future recommendations could affect spending; this was a planning step rather than an approved reduction list.
The evidence
During the unaudited-actuals discussion, staff reported the 6.77% reserve and explained the reserve benchmarks. The superintendent said the committee would first meet September 23 and bring recommendations as early as the first interim report. Later, on October 27, trustee Lara reported that BTA had stepped aside from the committee over bargaining concerns and asked it to reconsider; the union’s attempted later response was deferred to the next meeting.
