High-school handbook sets rules for AI-assisted work

Day-to-day

What happened

Berlin High School’s 2026–27 handbook permits academic AI use when explicitly allowed and requires students to credit it and follow teacher guidance.

Why it matters to families

The high-school rules set consequences for academic dishonesty: a first reassessment may earn up to 75% credit, a second up to 50%, and a fourth offense can result in an F for the class and repeating it.

The evidence

The handbook describes using detection alongside other evidence, a private student meeting and parent notice, and a written appeal within two school days. Consequences accumulate during the school year. It is a high-school handbook, updated in June 2026 and reviewed November 6.
