Board calls, then cancels, a $120 million school bond just one week later
Brentwood Union School District · Jul 22, 2026
What happened
On July 15, 2026 the board voted 5-0 to place a $120 million school-improvement bond on the November 2026 ballot. One week later, at a special meeting on July 22, 2026, it voted 5-0 to rescind that approval, withdrawing the bond from the ballot.
Why it matters to families
The bond would have funded roof replacement, safety and security upgrades, HVAC and plumbing renovation, and new classroom construction districtwide, at an estimated cost of about $16.56 per $100,000 of assessed property value. Its withdrawal means those facility needs remain unfunded for now, and the reversal came without a public explanation in the board record of what changed in the week between the two votes.
The evidence
The board's own minutes record the July 15, 2026 roll-call vote adopting Resolution #2026-22 (calling the bond election) and the July 22, 2026 roll-call vote to rescind that same resolution, both unanimous 5-0.
