District news
Phones locked in pouches all school day

What happened
Starting in 2026-27, Brewster students may not use phones or smartwatches during the school day. Students in grade 5 and under may not bring them at all. Students in grades 6-12 lock them in a Yondr pouch each morning and unlock it after school. The board approved the policy on July 20, 2026.
Why it matters to families
This changes every student's school day. Parents who need to reach a child must call the school office (785-694-2236). Getting caught means detention, and a second time also means a week out of activities.
The evidence
The district's 2026-27 cell phone policy describes the daily pouch routine, the medical-only exception and the penalties. It cites the new Kansas law HB2299. The July 20, 2026 minutes record the board's approval.
