Burlington Public Schools — Curriculum

Over the 2025-26 school year, Burlington Public Schools' School Committee took a series of unanimous actions updating the curriculum from middle school through high school. The work began in January 2026 with approval of the 2026-27 Burlington High Program of Studies, which adds and removes courses, expands concurrent-enrollment options, and introduces digital growth portfolios starting with the Class of 2030.

Two months later, in March 2026, the committee turned to the middle grades, unanimously approving the recommendation of the Marshall Simonds Middle School Literacy Curriculum Committee. That action set the direction for the district's middle-school literacy curriculum.

The sequence closed in April 2026 when the committee unanimously approved the revised Middle School Pathway Exploration Model policy after incorporating community feedback. Together, the three decisions show a coordinated, committee-approved curriculum plan spanning the district's middle- and high-school years, with the high-school program of studies and digital portfolio launch forming the most consequential changes.
