What happened

The district's 2026 budget and tax notice says the total taxable value of property fell from $993,780,490 last year to $826,991,506 this year, a drop of about 17%. The board kept the total tax rate the same, at $0.9769 per $100 of value.

Why it matters to families

Local property taxes are the district's biggest source of money. When property values fall and the rate stays the same, the district collects less locally, which affects how much it can spend and how much it relies on state aid.

The evidence

The notice of public meeting to discuss the budget and proposed tax rate (meeting August 26, 2026) lists total taxable value of all property as $993,780,490 for the preceding tax year and $826,991,506 for the current year. It shows local revenue per student falling from $15,782 to a proposed $14,318.
