Board schedules a vote to take back the $1,000 teacher pay increase
What happened
On July 6, 2026 the board approved 2026-2027 salary schedules and added $1,000 to the certified (teacher) salary schedule, citing SB 201 teacher-retention funding. Both the August 10 and the August 20, 2026 special meeting agendas then list an item to rescind that increase. The August 20 meeting was called for that single item. Minutes for both August meetings had not been published when this page was built, so the outcome is not yet on the public record.
Why it matters to families
A $1,000 change to the certified salary schedule applies to every teacher in the district. Reversing a raise that was already voted in, weeks after a $400,000 shortfall was recorded, is the kind of decision that affects whether teachers stay, and Caney Valley has about 42 certified staff across three schools.
The evidence
The July 6, 2026 minutes record the motion 'to approve the salary schedules and assignments as presented amending the certified salary schedule to add an additional $1,000.00 in light of SB 201,' carried unanimously. The August 20, 2026 special meeting agenda lists one action item: 'to rescind action taken at a meeting held on July 6th, 2026 providing an increase of $1,000 to the district's certified salary schedule.' The same item appears on the August 10, 2026 agenda.
