What happened

The district plans to send families their child’s assigned school for 2027–28 under new feeder boundaries and open school-choice permit requests Nov. 2–13. Families considering a different school should act during that window; the district said it would not assume current permit-holders want to return to their newly assigned schools.

Why it matters to families

A family’s assigned school is changing under the new feeder boundaries, and the short permit window gives families a chance to request another available school before placements and staffing plans are finalized.

The evidence

At the Oct. 26 meeting, district leaders said families would receive individual school assignments for 2027–28 and that the school-choice permit window would run Nov. 2–13. They said the district has about 1,400 existing permits, some of which may no longer be needed under the new boundaries, and that the early window lets families express their preferences rather than having the district assume they want to return to their assigned school.
