Clifton launches districtwide bike and e-bike safety initiative

What happened
Clifton schools are launching a communitywide effort to teach students and families how to travel safely by bicycle, e-bike, scooter and skateboard. Plans include hands-on riding clinics, helmet distribution, traffic-safety lessons and police-supervised rides.
Why it matters to families
District leaders cited several accidents involving Clifton students, including one student who was seriously injured and in a coma. The effort pairs practical safety training for students with family education and community partners.
The evidence
At the October 8 meeting, the superintendent described a comprehensive communitywide safety initiative focused on skill development, family engagement and practical application. Planned partners and activities include St. Joseph’s University Medical Center providing bicycle and pedestrian safety programming, helmets and trauma education; Easy Ride clinics and walk-and-roll days; age-appropriate Safety Town training; and Clifton Police-led rides. The superintendent said several district students had been in accidents, including one who was significantly injured and in a coma last year.
