What happened

At the October 8 meeting, the motion to approve Designing Schools’ AI initiative died for lack of a second. A separate motion referred the matter through the policy committee.

Why it matters to families

The district has not adopted this consultancy or the proposed classroom rollout simply because it heard the presentation.

The evidence

Trustees debated environmental impacts, critical thinking, mental health and guardrails. Garcia opposed the consultancy and broad AI use; Callimanis supported guided literacy. Two adult-education AI courses separately passed 4–1. On October 22, Callimanis requested another consultancy vote, but no new approval was recorded.
