District and city begin planning a possible major project at Cordova Jr.-Sr. High School

What happened
Cordova School District and the City of Cordova are beginning planning for a state capital-improvement grant application for the Cordova Jr.-Sr. High School building. The district is still weighing renovation against replacement and lists Sept. 1, 2027, as a tentative application target, calling that timeline a “lofty goal.”
Why it matters to families
The work could eventually lead to a major renovation or replacement of the school, but no construction scope or funding has been approved; the district says planning and funding coordination are still underway.
The evidence
In the superintendent’s report for the Oct. 14, 2026 board meeting, she said she and the City Manager were meeting regularly about future work on the CHS building and discussing the state CIP application process. The attached tentative timeline says planning will evaluate renovation versus replacement and project costs, and identifies Sept. 1, 2027, as the possible application deadline. It also says the City would need to plan for 35% of the DEED-approved grant amount plus costs outside the grant scope.
