District news

Peters Elementary students to move to Bain to ease crowding at Western Hills

Day-to-day

What happened

At the January 5, 2026 work session staff said the district was preparing to tell families about a plan to send Peters Elementary students on to Hugh B. Bain Middle School instead of Western Hills Middle School. Officials said Western Hills is well over capacity and that the change would leave a group of 185 students rather than 263. The plan was first discussed at the September 8, 2025 work session.

Why it matters to families

This decides which middle school a group of Cranston children attends, which classmates they move up with, and how far they travel. It also signals the kind of boundary change the district later formalised when it created a redistricting committee in April 2026.

The evidence

The approved January 5, 2026 minutes record the plan to move Peters Elementary students to Bain and the 185-versus-263 enrollment comparison. The September 8, 2025 minutes record the earlier discussion of moving Peters grade 5 students to Bain to make room at Western Hills.
