USD 232 proposes resurfacing two high-school tracks after safety concern

What happened
USD 232 is asking the Board to approve resurfacing the tracks and runways at Mill Valley High School and De Soto High School after consultants found peeling or bubbling surfaces creating a safety concern. The proposed work totals about $905,461 and would close the tracks for four to five weeks over summer.
Why it matters to families
The work addresses a documented hazard on facilities used by high-school and middle-school teams as well as community members, but those users would lose access during the summer project period. Board approval is still pending.
The evidence
The Oct. 5 packet describes the resurfacing as an action item and reports that consultants recommended respraying track ovals and resurfacing runways and D zones; peeling/bubbling runway surfacing was creating a safety concern. Hellas Construction's proposed quotes are $453,971 for Mill Valley High School and $451,490 for De Soto High School; work is expected to take four to five weeks, with tracks closed during construction.
