Board adopts a districtwide personal communication devices policy
What happened
On June 8, 2026, the Board of Education gave final adoption to Executive Limitation 23, a new board policy governing personal communication devices, after a survey of community sentiment and review by a Communication Devices Advisory Committee stretching back to late 2025.
Why it matters to families
A board-level phone/device policy directly changes students' day-to-day experience in class; the district began rolling out related back-to-school messaging about the policy ahead of the 2026-27 school year.
The evidence
The June 8, 2026 Regular Board Meeting agenda lists 'EL23 Communication Device Policy Final Read & Adoption,' following a second read on May 20, 2026, a first read process beginning in early 2026, and a June 4, 2026 review of 'Communication Device Survey Results.' The August 27, 2026 agenda includes a 'Back to School & Communication Device Videos' superintendent update.
