District news
Phones must stay off and stored throughout school activities

What happened
Desert Center’s June 24 policy update requires student phones and other mobile devices to be off and stored during school, after-school programs, field trips and district transportation.
Why it matters to families
Families need to plan how to contact children through the school. Medical, emergency, administrator-approved and IEP exceptions remain.
The evidence
The 2026–27 handbook, page 15, dates the policy update to June 24, 2026. It covers the full school day, ELOP, trips and transportation. Unauthorized use can lead to temporary confiscation and discipline. The handbook says device contents will not be searched without parental consent or a lawful warrant/legal exception.
