Enrollment keeps falling: about 200 fewer students than two years ago

Financial

What happened

District staff reported 7,817 students in 2024-25 and 7,631 in 2025-26, with 7,524 projected for 2026-27, a drop of about 293. On Oct. 7, 2026 they said the count was about 201 below 2024-25. The biggest drop is in grades 1 to 5.

Why it matters to families

A lot of state aid is paid per student, so fewer students means less money. Staff also named falling enrollment as one of the main budget risks for the next few years.

The evidence

The 2026-27 budget presentation lists enrollment by grade for three years. In the Oct. 7 recording, the business official said the projection was a drop of about 293 students and the actual count was running 201 below 2024-25.
