District news
Summer scholars program would add rising third graders

What happened
The district proposes a four-week, weekday summer program for up to 90 rising kindergarten-to-third-grade students at Ecole Toussaint Louverture Elementary School and Sheila Oliver Academy. It would run July 5–31, 2027, with enrollment based on academic need, family enrollment and available capacity.
Why it matters to families
The proposal would extend the program's grade range beyond the prior year's K–2 plan, offering rising third graders summer academic support; places remain capped at 90 across the two schools.
The evidence
The October 29 agenda proposes the 2026–27 Sunshine Scholars program for up to 90 students rising into kindergarten through grade 3 at Louverture and Sheila Oliver Academy, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 5–31, 2027, with a budget of $126,258.80. The June 29, 2026 agenda described the prior-year program for rising K–2 students at the same schools, also capped at 90. The October 29 item is an agenda proposal, not an adopted decision.
