What happened

Easthampton voters approved the Proposition 2 1/2 override on June 9, 2026. On June 16 the School Committee voted to adopt a FY27 budget of about $24.05 million -- $922,603.50 below what the district originally asked for, including roughly $713,510 in personnel cuts (an estimated 5 to 6 positions). The district kept all athletics and after-school clubs funded.

Why it matters to families

The override avoided the deepest cuts -- 35 lost positions and the end of all sports -- but the district still has fewer staff than it planned for, and families should expect some program and staffing changes for the 2026-2027 school year.

The evidence

The June 16, 2026 minutes record the vote to amend the budget with $922,603.50 in cuts, split into about $713,510 from personnel and the remainder from non-personnel areas, while stating sports and clubs will continue to be funded.
