Summer 2026 roof and electrical work at schools; Albany Avenue emptied

Facilities

What happened

The district replaced roofs and upgraded electrical service in school buildings this summer. In February the superintendent said Albany Avenue Elementary had to be fully vacated, so the extended school year program moved to Northside. On Aug. 19 he said the roof work was substantially complete and on budget, and the Howitt courtyard electrical line was the last piece.

Why it matters to families

Families saw programs move and some buildings close for a time. The work is also meant to cut repair costs. Staff first day was Aug. 31 and students returned Sept. 1.

The evidence

Feb. 4 approved minutes (superintendent update on Albany Avenue), the Nov. 5 and Dec. 10 agendas listing roof and electrical contracts for the schools, and the Aug. 19 recording (superintendent says roofs are largely complete). Captions are machine-made.
