What happened

After a formal challenge, the board appointed a reconsideration committee on August 27, 2026. It included staff, a student and five community members, one named by each director. On September 16, the superintendent reported that the committee voted 8-1 to remove M.T. Anderson's novel 'Feed' as required reading in a high school English class while keeping it in the library. Parents spoke for and against limiting books. The superintendent said the district will honor a parent's request that their child not read a specific book.
