AI policy adopted; phone rules follow before August 30
What happened
The School Committee approved the second and final reading of an artificial intelligence policy by 9 votes to 0, eight months after a member first asked the policy committee to write one and the superintendent noted the state had issued guidance. At the same meeting it took a first reading of a personal electronic device policy, and was told every school must have one in effect by August 30, 2026. That policy was adopted on second reading on August 4, 2026.
Why it matters to families
One sets the rules for how pupils may use AI in their work; the other decides what happens to phones during the school day. Both are in force for the year now starting.
The evidence
