District news
School breakfast up 25 cents, lunch up 50 cents
What happened
The School Committee approved a $0.25 increase in the price of school breakfast and a $0.50 increase for lunch, taking effect for the 2026-2027 school year. The votes came at the first meeting after voters cut the district's budget back to the previous year's level.
Why it matters to families
For a family with two children buying lunch every day, an extra 50 cents each works out at roughly $180 over a school year.
The evidence
The August 4, 2026 approved minutes record the motion approving the increase of $0.25 for the school breakfast and a separate motion approving an increase of $0.50, both passed. The minutes give the increases rather than the resulting prices.
