What happened

The board approved an updated policy JICJ on Jun 24, 2026. Students can use phones and smart watches in school only if a teacher approves them as a learning tool. Otherwise devices must be off and stored out of sight. Broken rules can lead to discipline and a phone being held until a parent meets with the school.

Why it matters to families

This sets the phone rules for every student, with exceptions for disability plans and medical needs.

The evidence

The policy text says students may use a personal technology device during the school day only as a designated learning tool if authorized by the teacher, and that confiscated devices are returned only after a conference with the parent. It was last revised Jun 24, 2026.
