Framingham adopts new graduation competency rules

Curriculum

What happened

The committee unanimously adopted course- and mastery-based competency rules requiring aligned English, math, science, and—beginning with the class of 2027—U.S. history work, with mastery shown through an assessment, capstone, portfolio, or equivalent measure.

Why it matters to families

The policy defines how students qualify for a diploma after Massachusetts ended MCAS as the sole statewide competency requirement and includes appeal routes for current and former students.

The evidence

The November 19 minutes record a 9-0 second-reading approval of policies IKF and IKFE and summarize their graduation purpose.
