District news
District proposes opioid-overdose medicine at every school

What happened
A first-reading policy scheduled for November 9 would require the district to seek and maintain opioid-overdose reversal medication at each school. It also calls for at least one trained staff responder per school and allows use on buses, field trips and other school activities.
Why it matters to families
If adopted, the policy would create a districtwide response capability for suspected opioid overdoses, though a school may lack a medication set if the district documents an unsuccessful good-faith effort to obtain donations.
The evidence
The November 9 agenda lists Policy 3424 as a first reading. Its proposed text says the district will seek at least one set of opioid-overdose reversal medication doses at each school, requires identification of at least one designated trained responder at each school, and permits use on school property, school buses, field trips and sanctioned excursions. It allows an exception to the medication requirement when documented good-faith donation efforts fail.
