Board Approves New TK-5 Math Curriculum (HMH Into Math California)

Curriculum

What happened

At the February 10, 2026 meeting, the GUSD Board voted to approve adoption of HMH's Into Math California as the new TK-5 math curriculum, authorizing an 8-year contract not to exceed $200,000. A trustee raised concerns that Hillcrest Middle School staff were not consulted prior to selection.

Why it matters to families

This is a district-wide curriculum change affecting math instruction for all TK-5 students for up to 8 years, with a budget commitment of up to $200,000, and it responds to a state framework shift toward conceptual math instruction.
