County approves budget but warns of future operating deficits

What happened
The county approved Hemet’s budget while warning of projected unrestricted deficits of $10.0 m in 2026–27, $25.8 m in 2027–28 and $23.5 m in 2028–29.
Why it matters to families
Recurring spending needs offsets. The county still found positive balances and adequate cash; September unaudited actuals showed a $155.5 m combined General Fund ending balance for the completed 2025–26 year.
The evidence
August 28 county letter lists the three unrestricted deficits, approves the budget, and discourages additional ongoing costs without reductions. September 8 agenda/minutes approve unaudited actuals; the combined ending balance includes restricted and committed money and is not wholly unallocated cash.
