District news

Special education summer program to move from full day to half day

Day-to-day

What happened

The superintendent said the district will apply to the state to change its Extended School Year (ESY) summer program for students with disabilities from a full day to a half day. He said the change is not permanent.

Why it matters to families

Students in the summer program would have shorter days. The district says state aid rates and family feedback drove the plan and hopes more students will join.

The evidence

Transcript: applications to the state are due in about February and the district will track results. This is a plan, not a completed change.
