District news
Homeowners now pay a larger share of the school tax levy than in 2010
What happened
A district presentation shows homeowners paid 66.90% of the 2025-26 school tax levy, up from 56.29% in 2010. It says tax breaks (PILOT deals) for large commercial buildings can shift tax share to homeowners.
Why it matters to families
The same total budget can raise a homeowner's bill when the share changes. In the district's example, the shift since 2010 is about $1,085 a year for the average home. A 1-point shift adds $102.
The evidence
Slides 'Levy Distribution', 'Cumulative Illustrative Effect' ($5,752.30 to $6,837.05). These are illustrations the district calculated, not a tax bill. The 2025-26 levy was $118,463,674.
