What happened

Highline introduced a proposed revision to its Native Education policy, adding requirements for tribal consultation and ongoing implementation of Washington’s Since Time Immemorial curriculum. The proposal was presented for consideration on Oct. 21; the meeting transcript does not show a vote or adoption.

Why it matters to families

The policy guides how the district supports American Indian and Alaska Native students and would formalize consultation with tribes and the use of the state’s tribal-sovereignty curriculum. The board had not approved the revision at this meeting.

The evidence

At the Oct. 21 meeting, staff described policy 2197 amendments as reflecting new state and federal requirements, including local education agency tribal consultation and full, ongoing implementation of the Since Time Immemorial curriculum in all Washington public schools. This appeared as an introduction item; the transcript concludes without a vote on it.
