What happened

The August 19, 2026 workshop of the three School Union 69 committees (Hope, Appleton and Lincolnville) listed options for reorganizing. These included a full five-town RSU, a new grades 6-12 district with Camden-Rockport, and Hope and Appleton combining into one district with a K-4 building and a 5-8 building. The agenda gave falling enrollment, staffing and programming struggles, and possible savings as the reasons.

Why it matters to families

Hope Elementary is the town's only school, with about 143 students. Any merger or shared-building plan could change which building Hope children attend and how the town pays for schools. Maine consolidations need local votes, and no proposal has been adopted.
