Funding structure, how it compares to peers, and where major projects stand.

Who runs a one-school K-12 district?

A single K-12 school in Treasure County run by a five-member elected board, a superintendent and a district clerk.

Hysham School District #1 runs one school, Hysham School, for kindergarten through grade 12 in Hysham, Montana. A five-member Board of Trustees chaired by Marc Baue meets on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Superintendent Bill Colter and District Clerk Angie Stahl run the district day to day and give written reports at each meeting. Because the school is small, it shares some sports with nearby districts through co-op agreements and relies on state grants for building work.

Sports co-ops

In November 2025 the board approved an interlocal agreement for Hysham junior high wrestlers to compete with Forsyth. In February 2026 Melstone asked to join girls junior high volleyball and basketball.

Grants for buildings

The superintendent planned to apply for a Montana Coal Board grant to put in underground sprinklers for the school grounds and football/track field.

Contracts

The board signed Bridge Alliance health insurance contracts (February 2026) and awarded about $57,600 in roof and carpet work (April 2026).

Elections

The March 2026 agenda listed a resolution of acclamation for 2026 trustee positions, meaning no contested trustee election was needed that spring.

Posted records are thin: minutes exist for only 3 meetings in the last year, and nothing has been posted since April 2026, so recent decisions such as the 2026-27 budget cannot be checked.
