New handbooks bar student phone use throughout the school day
What happened
The board approved 2026-27 handbooks that prohibit students from displaying or using phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and other personal communication devices from the start to the end of the school day.
Why it matters to families
Students must keep devices put away during class and passing time. Repeat violations can require a parent to collect the device and can lead to school discipline.
The evidence
The June 22 minutes record unanimous approval of all three student-parent handbooks. The collected high school handbook says devices are prohibited during the school day and lists exceptions for disability plans, health plans, emergencies, and teacher-approved lessons.
