Innovation Academy Charter School — Curriculum

Curriculum changes at Innovation Academy Charter School have moved steadily from the school's foundation to its day-to-day classrooms over the past year. The first and most consequential development came in October 2025, when the board approved revised graduation requirements and a local competency determination that defines how students demonstrate mastery in place of MCAS as the statewide graduation requirement. This establishes the framework the school will use to assess and certify student learning going forward.

Building on that foundation, the school in March 2026 introduced a staff-developed classroom policy for generative AI. The policy sets three classroom levels—ranging from prohibited to encouraged—and emphasizes transparent use, protection of student personal information, and teacher-specific guidance, giving families a clear picture of how AI fits into instruction.

Most recently, in May 2026, the middle school revealed its 2026-27 course plan. The plan adds honors offerings, creates mixed-grade cohorts, and adjusts the schedule by replacing one weekly Spanish period with IACS 102 for younger grades while rotating music, technology, and Challenge by trimester. Taken together, these alerts show the school updating both the rules that govern graduation and the day-to-day shape of student courses.
