Board talks about suspending pre-K because few young children live nearby

What happened
In July 2026 the board discussed suspending the pre-kindergarten program because few children of pre-K age live in Island Park. Pre-K had already dropped to 4 or 5 children, and in May leaders had looked at 3- to 5-day schedules to draw more families.
Why it matters to families
Families with 4-year-olds may lose the only local pre-K option. Leaders also expect lower enrollment overall as families move away.
The evidence
July 21, 2026 minutes list the pre-K suspension discussion and expected lower enrollment. Earlier minutes give pre-K counts (4 in December 2025 and March 2026, 5 in January 2026) and the May schedule options. No final vote on pre-K appears in the posted minutes.
