What happened

District leaders estimated that state funding could fall about $1.2 million short of the state formula target this year and said next year’s outlook appears worse. They outlined possible levy changes—including one that would raise the total rate by 30 cents per $100 of assessed value—but said no decision has been made and they are seeking community input.

Why it matters to families

The district said reduced state support could pressure local funding and affect the quality of services and its ability to attract staff. It also reported that the county had not yet remitted about $400,000 in operating tax revenue, and described prior cost controls including a reduction from more than 510 positions in 2023 to 477 in 2026–27.

The evidence

In the Sept. 23, 2026 meeting presentation, administrators estimated an unrealized state-formula funding gap of about $656,000 last year and potentially about $1.2 million this year (37:36–38:32), while stating that no decisions on possible responses had been made (39:46–40:02). They described a scenario increasing the teachers levy by 60 cents and reducing debt service by 30 cents, for a net 30-cent increase to a total levy of $4.7179 (41:39–42:17). The district also reported about $400,000 in operating tax revenue awaiting county remittance (56:59–57:23).
