KHSD proposes new English-learner textbooks for grades 9–12

What happened
Kern High School District presented a proposed replacement textbook series for English Language Development courses ELD 1–5; the board heard it as a first reading and has not approved it. The district recommends Lift materials because its current provider is ending publication of materials for ELD 1, with a final approval recommendation expected at the next regular board meeting.
Why it matters to families
If approved, the new textbooks, workbooks and online platform would become core learning materials for English learners in grades 9–12, supporting language proficiency and academic skills.
The evidence
At the October 5 meeting, district staff said the current ELD 1 materials provider would no longer publish new materials and recommended Lift after a textbook review process. Staff said the materials would replace books in ELD 1–5 courses, impacting grades 9–12, and described the item as a first read; the final approval recommendation is due at the next regular meeting.
