District news
Building project is behind schedule; some work slips to 2027
What happened
Renovations at several schools were late. Asbestos found in old buildings was the main cause. Schools opened September 8 with construction still under way. On October 7, 2026 officials said an elevator will not be done until 2027 and some work moved to next summer. The project team said there is no added cost to the district since contracts are already bought out. The district describes the project as $167.5 million.
Why it matters to families
Families may deal with construction, closed areas and changed entrances. Later phases may be reshaped because too much work was stacked in each summer.
The evidence
In the October 7 recording staff say the elevator will be done in 2027, work moved to next summer, and phasing options are being studied. The August 12 and 26 meetings also report the project is behind schedule. The $167.5 million figure is from the superintendent goals page.
