Board declares schools a "Safe Zone" and sets rules for outside law enforcement

Day-to-day

What happened

A board resolution declares the district a Safe Zone. Staff must ask non-local officers, including ICE, to wait outside and notify the superintendent and district lawyer before any access or release of student information. The district will protect student data, post multilingual notices and train staff yearly. Residents asked on October 7, 2026 for regular progress reports.

Why it matters to families

It tells families what staff will do if immigration agents come to a school or bus, and limits sharing of student information.

The evidence

The resolution text is posted on the district website. It has no adoption date on the page; a resident at the October 7, 2026 meeting said the board passed it last year. The date shown is the Oct. 7, 2026 meeting where residents asked for progress reports; the adoption date is not posted.
