2026-27 budget spends slightly more than it takes in, with a large reserve

Financial

What happened

The board adopted the 2026-27 budget on June 29, 2026. The general fund expects $2,642,093 in revenue and $2,667,989 in spending, so it will draw about $26,000 from savings. It starts the year with $2,649,168 in the general fund, about a full year of spending. The budget assumes 92 students.

Why it matters to families

The reserve gives the district a cushion, but spending more than it takes in cannot go on forever. Families can see where the money goes: $1.52 million on instruction and $551,000 on building operations and upkeep.

The evidence

The 2026-27 Adopted Budget (CDE uniform budget form, scanned) lists general fund revenue of $2,642,093, expenditures of $2,667,989, a beginning fund balance of $2,649,168 and a budgeted pupil count of 92. The June 29, 2026 agenda lists 'Approval of the 2026-27 Budget'.
