County review flags three years of projected budget deficits

What happened
Laguna Joint’s adopted 2026–27 budget projects unrestricted-fund operating deficits in each of the next three years. The county review says the forecast depends on $60,481 in salary adjustments starting in 2027–28 and projects the fund balance falling 29% to $644,000 by June 2029.
Why it matters to families
Continued deficits could pressure future educational programs, though the county review projects the district would still have a $644,000 balance—110% of general-fund expenditures—in June 2029, and it approved the adopted budget.
The evidence
Marin County Office of Education’s 2026–27 Adopted Budget Review states that the adopted budget has unrestricted general-fund operating deficits in all three years of its projection; the cumulative effect is a 29% balance decline to $644,000 by June 30, 2029. It notes the balance depends on a $60,481 reduction in salary adjustments beginning in FY 2027–28. The county approved the adopted budget and LCAP.
