Lakeside adopts districtwide AI-use policy

What happened
The board adopted the district’s AI policy, moving beyond the draft it reviewed in June. It requires district communication when AI is used in student-facing tools, instruction, or major workflows; minor internal administrative uses are exempt.
Why it matters to families
Families will receive notice when AI is incorporated into student-facing tools or instruction, while the policy also sets expectations for how staff use AI in supporting learning and students with IEPs.
The evidence
The September 9 minutes say the policy addresses support for educators, including helping Special Day Class educators align IEP goals with state standards, and requires communication about AI integration into student-facing tools, instruction, or major workflows. The board adopted it 5–0; the minutes say it would then be formatted for the district’s GAMUT policy manual.
