First-year all-day phone ban: 446 violations, 294 students

Day-to-day

What happened

Under Policy 7316, students cannot use phones or other internet devices anywhere on school grounds all day. In 2025-26 the district recorded 446 violations by 294 of 5,539 students: 304 warnings, 22 phones taken, and 143 disciplinary consequences.

Why it matters to families

Every student is covered all day, including lunch and passing time. About 1 in 19 students had at least one violation.

The evidence

The district's Distraction-Free Schools enforcement report, published September 1, 2026, lists these counts. Policy 7316 allows exceptions for health care, emergencies, translation, teacher-approved lessons, and IEP or 504 plans.
