Lincolnville Central School reports only its nurse is trained to use the AED

What happened
At its Nov. 2 meeting, the school committee learned that only the school nurse is currently trained to use the school’s defibrillator. Staff had received an awareness demonstration, and administrators said they expect to develop a policy on AED training next year.
Why it matters to families
In a cardiac emergency, having more staff prepared to operate an AED could affect how quickly students or others receive help, particularly when the nurse is not present.
The evidence
During discussion of the emergency management plan, administrators said only the nurse was currently trained; they described an earlier staff session as awareness training rather than formal training. They said a policy specifying who should be trained and how staff will know AED locations would be developed next year. The committee then approved the plan.
